In this blog post we will discuss The Scribe, which is the twelfth card of the Major Arcana.
The Scribe card is the twelfth card in the Major Arcana of the Akashic Tarot. When this card comes up, I always see it as some legal issues ahead or a good time to go within and write things down. The intuitive meaning of the card is as follows:
Upright Meaning:
When the Scribe card comes out upright, it is a reminder that now may be a good time for study or picking up new subjects to study. Legal matters may also come up.
The card depicts a group of men in the background and another man in the foreground. The man in the foreground appears older, wiser and is perhaps a professor or teacher authority. He is sitting behind a high desk and writing something down. Below him are 5 scribes on the ground. The scene may take place in a library or a silent space. In the background, a group of three younger, looking men are sitting behind a communal desk or table and writing things down on their scribes with a feather. It appears everyone is occupied with their own subject matter. Perhaps it is a test or they are writing down homework, an essay or simply doing some research.
The meaning of this scene is figuratively and it can allude to a variety of things. My first instinct always brings me back to the number 12 of the card. 12 is the number of sacrifice, according to Chaldean numerology. This is not a great sign and this card may symbolize a form of sacrifice in an individual's life. In addition, this card may indicate that legal matters, issues or matters of the court could step into the forefront of a person's life. Divorce cases may come to mind or other types of scenarios. It can also symbolize someone literally becoming a student of a topic or matter and that the time ahead may be occupied with study material, college or simply learning something new. Perhaps if you were looking for a mentor, teacher or school on something, you will be rewarded in the near future. Writing proposals, grants, articles, essays and books may also be shown when this card comes up.
In addition, this card may indicate that whoever you pulled it for, this person may be pulled back in solitude and silence. They may be surrounded by a group of people but everyone is doing their own thing and occupied with their own homework and matters. Especially in regards to a man, this person may be pulled away from the crowd and family and in hermit mode.
Love:
Perhaps you or the person you are inquiring about is occupied with studies of material, school matters or something similar to it. Additionally, if you or your person are hoping for this, divorce cases may be settled soon and be going through. This could also be in regards to a karmic situation either of you are connecting to. The card can also indicate that your person is ready to open their mindset and learn something new or is pre-occupied with it.
Overall meaning:
This card depicts learning, studying, legal matters and finding the right teacher, mentor, professor or even school, if this is what you desire.
Reverse Meaning:
When the Scribe card comes out in reverse, this might show that book, essay, article projects or writing projects in general may be thwarted or even come to a standstill at this point. Perhaps you are in Mercury Retrograde when you pull this card.
It can also indicate matters of the law or court taking longer than expected or popping up unexpectedly. Or that you feel a disconnect to your learning abilities, as a student in school. Or are facing challenges of learning something new in your life.
Remember - there is always a right time for things. The right timing will typically feel easy and not as if you are trying to swim against the current.
