I will not rescue you, for you are not powerless.
I will not fix you, for you are not broken.
I will not heal you, for I see you in your wholeness.
I will walk with you through the darkness, as you remember your light.
(A Medicine Woman's Prayer)
These words from Sheree Bliss Tilsley remind us that we are not here to heal others. This goes especially for all the healers out there where the savior program may still be running deep. Rather we are here to hold space for others and remind them of their own radiance and light.
We all have the ability to heal, even on our own. But instead of seeking a quick fix in the form of therapy, distraction, numbing of pain or counseling, acceptance of our situation is in order. The power of holding space is highly underestimated. Holding space for others, and the pain and transformation they are going through, is crucial.
We all change as we go through life. Sometimes more than others during a similar period. We are not on a set time frame but rather on our own paths. The challenges and circumstances we are going through may differ from others. Sometimes greatly. We also deal with situations in a different way others may do.
Honoring our own changes, paths and lives is crucial. And honoring others in the same way, too.
